| What’s the difference between generics and name brands? | |

A generic drug has been FDA-approved to be the same as a brand name drug in dosage, safety, strength,
how it is taken, quality, performance and intended use. Since generics have the same active ingredients
and are shown to work the same way in the body, they have the same risks and benefits as their brand
counterparts. They work in the same amount of time too.

When a company develops a new drug, they get a patent which allows them to be the only manufacturer of
the drug. After a few years, their patents expire and many drug companies can make the same drug. As
with most things, when many companies compete for your business, prices go down. So with generics, you
